A Decent Free Or Paid Web/server Host?

By admin Posted in: Database Software

I’ve honestly gotten a good interest in client/server programming. I’m still new, of course, but I’m learning MySQL/PHP/Java.
The problem is, any website I’ve used for hosting either doesn’t allow Java files, or has too many problems/limitations.
Can anyone recommend a decent host? I don’t want to break the bank, but if that is the price of learning, I’ll do it.
The only thing I must have:
-MySQL Databases
-PHP support
-Java Support
I would prefer cPanel, since it’s what I’m used to, but I’ll learn anything I have to.
(Does using the server as a Java socket server count as ‘streaming?’)

PHP and MySQL are standards in Linux hosting across the industry. You’ll find almost every hosting company supporting them (I’d be surprised if they don’t because a lot of popular stuff like CMS etc is written in PHP and uses MySQL by default.) So that won’t be a problem.
The reason not many will allow you to run Java on their shared hosting (you are talking about shared hosting right?) is because Java using JRE tends to get resource intensive and it can very easily become a problem for other shared users on your shared server.
So what do people who want to host Java applications do? They usually go for VPS (virtual private server) but that costs a whole lot more. But you can install whatever requirements you have (anything that can be installed in a virtual environment) so you won’t have much problems running your Java stuff. VPS costs around $40 or more per month (as against shared hosting of around $10/month).
    Here’s my educated guess:
    1) You can try a shared hosting that supports private servlet/Tomcat/JSP on shared hosting (you’ll have to pay a little extra for the Java support). Do I know of one? Yes, but make sure you ask them if they will support what you have in mind exactly by talking to there live chat/phone support *before* you sign up for web hosting with them so you don’t get any rude shocks later: The company’s called Arvix. I personally don’t know any other company supporting this on shared hosting. Check them out on this list:http://hosting4beginners.webnode.com/lis…
    2) If you don’t get what you want in 1, then your best option is VPS. I’d highly recommend Arvix and MDDHosting on that list for that.
cPanel is standard with both of them (I think, do make sure).
    Hope that helps. Good luck!

    hi,
through out my life i’ve been with a lots of hosts, but the feature u must look for in a host is the Technical and Backsupport they offer, in my experience http://www.thewebpole.com/ offers them well and good and it is also a free hosting provider, they duly provide SQL databases with PHP and JAVA support
