I have Avast anti-virus. However, I scan everything once and a while. I mean Avast is not a superman saver or anything.
With Comcast (cable & internet company) they give you FREE Norton anti-virus. I have heard talk that Norton sucks etc which is more than opinion since I have had it before and I uninstalled it with NO problem before when the trial was terminated and now I have it for FREE courtesy of Comcast. One thing I can say is before you go to a site it will tell you if it is suspicious first with the “safe search”.
To the point*******
1. Norton turned off my Windows 7 firewall. In order for me to turn it off I think I would have to uninstall Norton. The question is – Is that okay that Norton turned it off?
2. Along with Avast (which is not running but I do scan it once and awhile)
I also have Malware/Anti-ware?
Should I keep it? or do anyone recommend a BETTER Anti Spyware & Anti-Malware combo for FREE.
Anymore suggestions would be helpful. If so please recommend something that is total FREE without credit cards or 14 trials, FREE PLEASE ONLY. In the past, I figured out paying for ANY anti-virus does not work.
I don’t want to many conflicts as it is.
**********Preferably I want suggestions and recommendations from people who know about viruses and spy-ware/malware, hacks etc.*************************
THANKS TO EVERYONE WITH HONEST ANSWERS.

1) You seem to be already using Avast so you must completely uninstall Norton:http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/k…
You shouldn’t have 2 or more antivirus programs at any time. Re-enable the Windows 7 built-in firewall.
However, if you want a better firewall, use the Comodo Free Personal Firewall:http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-secu…
2) You should keep Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware installed as it works well with antivirus programs. No conflicts at all.
Lastly, if you want a light and very effective antivirus program that gives you real-time protection instead of Avast, I highly recommend Microsoft Security Essentials:http://www.microsoft.com/security_essent…
Here’s why:http://savedelete.com/best-free-windows7…
Don’t run two antivirus software on one computer, because antivirus software locks up the file before scanning it, and if two antivirus software are running at the same time, they may lock each other up when they scanning each other.
Antispyware software doesn’t lock the computer before scanning, so you can have more than one antispyware programs on the computer
If you really want to keep two antivirus software on one computer, make sure you completely disable one before running the other.
I would recommend Microsoft Security Essentials over Avast.http://www.microsoft.com/security_essent…
See these links for their comparisonhttp://www.brighthub.com/computing/smb-s…
There are two pages for this comparison.
1. Norton probably has it’s own firewall and shut the Windows firewall off by default. If you had no firewall, Windows,by default, would have warned you.
2. Norton has it’s own anti-virus and anti-malware.Having another anti-virus will cause conflicts and even crash your operating system. Uninstall Avast until you no longer want or need Norton.
I don’t know what Malware/Anti-ware is so I’ll suggest you get rid of it and replace it with Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware free version. You can get it from http://malwarebytes.org and http://www.download.com
Sidebar: As soon as you get utterly fed up with all the configuration issues, and conflicting advise about what’s better or worse, along with the constant security updating, and scans and inevitable infections despite all your best efforts: stop using Windows on the Internet and get Linux for those tasks.
Keep Windows confined to ‘in-house’ work only.
Ubuntu for instance installs in about 20 minutes; it’s point and click like Windows; comes with Firefox; and is in a completely different Multiverse from Windows when it comes to malware.
Not bullet proof, but far and away more secure.
