Can I Be Sure That Nobody Has Stolen My Files?

By admin Posted in: Firewall Software

Hey everyone. I’ve already asked this on a different section of YA but I got only two answers and neither was a straight one. So I’ll just have to ask this again in a different area in the hopes that SOMEBODY who knows what they’re talking about can help me.
A couple of months ago for stupid reasons I ended up taking some ‘inappropriate’ pics of myself on my digital camera. I felt ridiculous for doing it afterwards and deleted them off the camera but then i read somewhere that pictures can be recovered off memory cards. So i took some more photos to overwrite the deleted data and then connected the camera to my computer to check on the program Recuva (photo recovery freeware) if the photos had been overwritten yet.
They hadn’t but when I checked back a couple of weeks ago, they had been overwritten with photos i deleted from my vacation. I am quite a nervous person on the whole, and now I’m paranoid that somehow the pictures could still be recovered, or already have been. I did recover one of them from Recuva before it was overwritten, just out of interest, to see if the file was damaged from the program, but then immediately deleted it and ran CCleaner to delete it permanently from my recycle bin.
I’m seeking reassurance, not someone telling me that i was stupid to take pics like that (i already know that). I didn’t send the photos to anyone, no one has seen them but me, but i am still paranoid that someone has hold of them and are putting them all over the internet somehow! It’s really upsetting me and I feel worried all the time, despite KNOWING that I did not send them to anyone and have deleted them.
I just need a computer pro to tell me that a) it’s definitely unlikely someone would want to hack MY computer and that if they had, I would know about it (I have anti-virus and firewall)
and b) there’s no way my pictures have been ‘leaked’, so to speak. I’m more worried about an outside attack on my computer rather than the memory card being stolen… the camera’s in safe hands so that’s not really an issue. I just get the feeling someone could be hacking my computer or the pictures could somehow have magically made their way across the internet, which sounds stupid but paranoid people say stupid things.

NO they cant. the program to recover data from a memory card is expensive. no one has the time or money to do this just for photos. usually when they do spend a week trying to recover the data, the photo or data is os badly corrupted, they cant really tell what the contents on the file or photo was.
    1. get a free program that will WIPE deleted data traces.
    2. next time u take kink photo, DONT have ur face in the photo. that way if someone does decide to spend a week trying to recover deleted data from a memory card. the photo will not have ur face. no face no id.

The chance of someone finding the files on the camera and then pulling them out of the grave is very low. You’re fine. Trust me, I’ve been doing computers for over 10 years.

Highly unlikely someone would spend the time unless they are specifically targeting you and know what to look for. Programs to do such things are not expensive by the way. If one knows were to look, ALL software is free.
