Can Malware Attack Your Computer While It Sleeps?

By admin Posted in: AntiVirus

During this season of doing taxes, many of us by computer, I try to keep my malware software up to date. Sometimes at night, though, I put my computer to sleep, expecting to get back to it, and go to sleep myself instead. Is my computer in danger of getting malware in that mode?
Corollary question: I’m assuming my malware software gets rid of stuff that could look at my taxes. Is there a danger of that with viruses, too? I try to keep my antivirus software updated and run it frequently, too. I had two trojans the other day, apparently removed by the antivirus program. Thanking for any help you can give.

malware can’t just enter a computer system. You need to actually click on a link or download something for a virus or malware to infect your pc. So in sleep mode, although existing malware will damage your pc still, it won’t be able to get any more unless the virus or malware is programed to inject bad things.
I would suggest getting rid of your current anti virus and installing AVG. It’s saved me numerous times and automatically updates and you can schedule virus scans.
    I hope this helps

There’s no activity in the computer if it is in sleep mode. Your operating system is in a frozen state so not even malware can enter the computer, and this is regardless if you have an antivirus and antispyware installed.
However, if the computer is running, you can not be sure that your computer is safe if you only have an antivirus. Nowadays, the main battle is against spyware as that is where malicious programmers are getting more money by stealing personal info. That’s why if you care about your privacy, you must also install an antispyware. One product that is getting good reviews right now is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/mal…
It has a free version but will only scan on your demand. You can try the Pro version that has real-time protection and scanning features free for 14-days. After that, it will downgrade to the free version. A lifetime license of the pro version only costs $25 and doesn’t expire.

No, i don’t believe you can get viruses even in sleep mode . Especially if you have a good antivirus updated and running all the time. So in my opinion, as long as you have a good antivirus (preferably internet security suites like kaspersky), that updated and is running all the time, you’re safe as long as you don’t do anything to put your computer at risk.
