without western scholars, muslims would still be ignorant of, and uninterested in their own pre-islamic history -consigned to oblivion as it was by such a condescending and distainful term as “jahiliyyah”
i find it staggering how uninterested muslims have been about the rest of the world: during the brief colonial era western scholars travelled all over the pace studying & catalogueing the culture and brought out wave upon wave of treatises on every aspect of oriental culture, yet during the 700 years of the moors colonizing spain, they translated nothing and distained to even learn the language.
i suppose if you are brought up to think in terms of ummah & kuffar, your arrogance and supremacism is going to make it impossible to view “the other” as worthy of respect, and you are going to have no curiosity about, nor think you have anything to learn from his inferior kuffar culture.
when you project that down to recent times, is it any wonder the arabs have been culturally stagnant & stuck in backwardness?

I completely agree with you, but we see similar behaviour amongst many Christians with their continual use of phrases such as “god bless”, “god willing” and so on. I agree though, that many Muslims appear to be incapable of uttering a single sentence without referencing Allah in some way.
I suppose it was really quite clever of Mohammed and his imams but a tragedy for everyone else.
It gives Muslims the perfect excuse to avoid any responsibility – by saying the outcome is out of their control.
