The firewall enables you to control incoming and outgoing traffic from your computer. Protection is based on heuristic and behavioral analysis, and a white list of known safe applications. There are three network settings which can be changed depending on the type of connection.
if it isn’t a firewall can you suggest a free firewall and antivirus (preferably all in one) for me to download while I wait for Rogers to fix this problem?

    The free edition of Avast is just an antivirus. It doesn’t include any firewall feature. If you want an exellent firewall software, here:

    Avast free does NOT include a firewall.
    Just enable your built-in Windows firewall and you should be fine.

    Comodo has a free firewall that is VERY highly regarded if you want a very secure firewall
