Help With A .zip File Virus? (10 Points)?

By admin Posted in: Uncategorized

so, here’s the thing: my father is all-things-computer challenged. despite repetitive warnings, he continued to open attached files from emails, click on pop-ups, etc… and, inevitably, we eventually caught–not one, not two— but FOUR viruses that came in the form of a .zip file.
I located the files and deleted them and cleared the recycle bin… However, the computer is still acting extremely lethargic (internet sites are loading at a slower-than-dial-up speed… Additionally, an antivirus software we have (Malware Bytes) is refusing to open, which is most likely a feature obtained from the virus…
Any suggestions?

Oh my God, that sounds very serious! If I were you, I would contact my local computer service department (where I purchased the computer) so as to fix this problem!
No, seriously though, .zip is not a virus! I know I thought that before, but now I know they are simple extensions for compressed files. But if you have such further problems, download AVG or AVIRA anti virus from the internet for free.
Go to Download.com and type AVIRA or Comodo or AVG anti virus

If its spyware, which it could be, you can download this to remove it:http://www.superantispyware.com/download…
You could search the internet for a free antivirus software, but make sure it is legit and not just yet again another virus. I gave you the link above because I know it is legit. You could try a Trend Micro 30-day trial for Anti-Virus + Anti-Spyware, which is probably the best you could get, but you do have to enter your credit card number (some people find it a hassle to do that), but after the trial you do not have to buy it. I would suggest getting the 30 day trial of the Trend Micro Anti-Virus + Anti-Spyware, because it has both, and Trend Micro is number 1 in the nation. Here is this link for it: https://store.trendmicro.com/servlet/Con…
Hope your computer problems get better :) I have had so many problems in the past with viruses but because of that I know a lot about protection from it

Malwarebytes’ is a great antispyware. However, it’s not an antivirus program as you thought.
Without much information about how the virus were behaving on your computer, I would suggest that you use an external antivirus scanner:http://www.free-av.com/en/tools/12/avira…
Use the disk to boot and scan your infected computer. Afterward, update and scan again your computer using Malwarebytes.
When you are done removing the virus, get the free Microsoft Security Essentials:http://www.microsoft.com/security_essent…
