My OS is Win Vista Home premium. I’m not sure what else I’d want to back up, probably drives and apps. My PC got slow, In think spyware, so I got Best Buys diagnostics and optimization again.

you can clean your pc from malware, viruses, etc. using:
1 – CCleaner for cleaning and deleting unused files
2 – Malwarebytes and HiJackThis for searching and deleting malware
3 – Kaspersky virus removal tool for viruses
4 – defragmentation for speed up your pc

You don’t want to backup your OS… if you have it on the original disks you can always restore it from the CDs. Just set up your machine like you want and set a restore point in the OS to save off the entire configuration including registry settings. Then if anything goes haywire you can always jump back to a “better time in the life of your PC”.
You should be backing up your data files though… anything you have created should be backup to CDs from time to time. I would do it Montly for home use… maybe weekly for business use.
Look up “setting restore point” in the help on your PC… and “backup” for detailed info.
I think Vista has a built in back-up program. Buy an external HDD from Amazon and back everything up on there from the USB one a week or so. It will save your butt! I guarantee it!http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magaz…
