How Do I Stop Automatic Updates On My Computer?

By admin Posted in: AntiVirus

first before i hear “oh, it couldnt possibly be that” it is, deal with it.
i have an update that every time my computer automatically adds it, it cuts off my internet.
every time i remove said update i get my internet back then it tries to auto update again and i lose the internet.
i have a windows 7 home premium toshiba laptop.
for those of you that will ask:
i have norton antivirus 2010, had it for awhile. no it is not blocking the internet because yes i did uninstall it and all its components when the net still refused to work i reinstalled it.
i run it daily.

If you just want to prevent one specific update from installing, and you know which particular update is the problem one, follow the steps here to hide it from Automatic Updates:http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Foru…
And yes, that can certainly be happening to you. Every now and then Microsoft releases an update that causes certain things to break in systems with a specific configuration. But do check back a couple months down the line — often MS will release an revised version of those problem updates if enough people have complained.

Without telling us which update we can’t really help you. All I can say is if you turn off updates it will make your machine extremely vulnerable to future hacking an malware attacks, as most updates are security patches for holes in the system. Generally if this kind of thing happens, it is because you are running some other program which conflicts with the update. Better to fix the problem, rather than leave the machine vulnerable

Control Panel>Security Center>Automatic Updates>Turn off. I also turned my updates off, because I have a slow connection.
