Hey i recently bought a NETGEAR N300 from Best buy after having my 2nd linksys within 2 years die on me. I connected my gaming desktop computer(windows 7) *wired* and my laptop (windows xp)very easily *wireless* and fast. I then tried my wifes( HP 6515b AMD turion 64 X2 TL-50″ Windows XP service pack 3.) And it recognized my Netgear N300 using HP wireless assistant, but then i get an ongoing message after entering the Password. Which is correct i’ve checked and rechecked. The On-going message says ” Waiting for the network to be ready” or ” waiting for the network” in general. Every other piece of equipment i have has picked it up no problem. I’ve utilized my N300′s Security for WPA2 at first, but once i started having problems i downgraded it too WPA. Thinking this would reslove the issue because my original linksys was WPA security, but theres been absolutley no change. I’ve heard rumors about Windows xp SP3 not being so compatible with WPA2. I’ve searched and searched for Drivers for this machine if anyone has any idea on what to do please give me a shout. Thanks

Your wireless card in your wife’s computer may not be compatible with wireless-N, or WPA2, or both. Triple-check your security key as well.
Connect the HP XP lap top wired to the router using a cat 5 Ethernet cable and ping the IP address. Open network connections and set the WPA2 or security settings the same as on your other computers.

your message states that the “waiting for the network” message is being flashed, which tells us that the network is, indeed responding, and that the wireless adapter is working…quite often the first time negotiation between a newly installed device and the wireless router (or access point) takes much longer than should seem necessary.,.,I would try these things in the order I will list them to resolve the issue.
#1: Check the obvious. Turn off the computer, and be sure the card is fully inserted into the slot, all of the little contacts on the edge are clean and shiny, and that the slot itself is unobstructed and without bent or missing contacts. Yes, if only even one contact is dirty, missing or otherwise damaged, it could cause the symptoms you are describing.
#2: Turn the machine back on. If the correct drivers are installed, you WILL NOT SEE any messages about finding and installing any new devices. If you do see such a message, then the proper drivers were not installed, or were possibly corrupted.
#3: Right-click the icon for the device, and click on the properties tab at the bottom of the menu, then go to the advanced tab, which should show a menu of settings for your device such as header sizes, ibss modes, fragmentation threshholds, and bluetooth collaborations. The things to check here are the radio enabled/disabled option, the 54b, g, or auto settings, and whether the ssid for the device you are trying to attach to are correct. Also, is this a home router or a commercial router (service) ?
#4: At a command prompt for your computer, or the run button at the start menu, type (without the quote marks) “ipconfig /release” , then, “ipconfig /renew” and, finally ” ipconfig /all ” .This will release any bindings for your adapters protocols which may exist from your previous adapter, then renew them for your current adapter, and finally will display any network adapters installed on your current computer and the addresses and such info pertaining to them.
#5: Open the help and support tab on your start menu, choose the troubleshooters option, and click on the networking trouble shooter to access a tool which can query your systems hard ware and drivers for you and save them into a text file which you can paste into a post here if you need to return for more help. GOOD LUCK!!!
