My Pc Has A Computer Virus, A Fake Version Of Security Suite?

By admin Posted in: Uncategorized

It won’t let me open applications, or go online. I’m on my Mac right now. What should I do?

  1. Breezy Says

get a virus scanner set the computer to safe mode and scan

  2. Trish Says

Try starting in safe mode with networking.
Scroll down to “Automated Removal Instructions for Internet Security 2010 using Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware:”
    Follow the instructions carefully.

Try booting the PC in safe mode (hit F8 several times after turning computer on, select safe mode and hit enter) and uninstalling the fake security suite from control panel. If that don’t solve it, download several free spyware/malware removers from your mac’s internet connection and install them and run them on the PC in “safe mode with networking” update their definitions and run full/complete scans of all drives.
Some good free spyware/malware removers are: a2squared, SuperAntiSpyware, malwareBytes, Ad-Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy, and AVG Antivirus.

Mac’s rarely get virus’s, so you have problem.
I don’t know Mac, but can’t you just delete it?

Try rebooting into safe mode with networking. Also, try disabling proxy in your browser. Here a more detailed guide:
    1. Reboot into safe mode with networking. If it does not work, continue anyway
2 .Open Internet Explorer, choose Tools menu and select Internet Options.
    3. Click on the Connections tab and then on the LAN Settings button. Uncheck the checkbox labeled Use a proxy server for your LAN under the Proxy Server section and press OK.
    4. Then start task manager or process explorer (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysin… ) and stop all processes that are like combination of random letters. If it fails, continue anyway, or check this guide : http://www.2-viruses.com/remove-security… for more specific names
    5. Start MSConfig and disable all startup entries that launch processes from within your user directory, for example App Data folder… You might need to reboot after this step, to safe mode with networking again.
    6. Download good anti-malware tool like spyware doctor or malwarebytes. Scan with it, and delete stuff it finds (if it wont remove it itself).
    7. Reboot.

You can run antivirus and antispyware programs, but the sad fact is if you have found one virus on your computer, you probably have several. Cleaning the computer now requires you to follow these steps, because modern viruses and spyware entrench themselves in files that your computer needs in order to run:
    1. Virus-check your data files (not application files– you have installer CDs for those).
    2. Back up the data files, getting them off your hard drive.
    3. Get your original operating system CDs that came with your computer.
    4. Boot your computer from the operating system CD.
    5. Select the option that erases your hard drive and then reinstall your system software.
    6. Turn on your software firewall that came with your operating system.
    7. Reconnect to the internet, and download *all* Windows updates, no matter how long it takes.
    8. Reinstall your application software, and update the applications as much as you can.
    9. Reinstall your data files.
    10. Create a limited user account on your system that does *not* have administrator access, and web surf only from this account.
Yes, this is a pain in the butt. No, there is no other way. No, antivirus and antispyware programs cannot fix this problem on its own.
So, what do you do in the future?
    1. Never click on links you find in an e-mail.
    2. Never open an e-mail attachment, ever.
    3. Only download files from a reputable website that you know is on the up-and-up.
    4. Never use bit-torrent and other file-sharing programs.
    5. Never use an unsolicited drive-checking site.
    6. Turn off all java and java scripting by default, and only enable java and java scripting for sites that you know you can trust.
    7. Never read an unsolicited e-mail, and delete spam immediately. It is possible to be hacked by reading an e-mail alone.
Please adhere to the ‘dont’s’ I provided above, because you will have to repeat the cleaning steps that I listed first *every time you get infected.* Anti-spyware and anti-virus programs are good to have, but they are a second line of defense. The best way to protect your system is you, and changing your behavior.
    Good luck!
