I have a Sony DV Camcorder DCR-HC18E connected to my PC via a Firewall USB I have the software I need and have made sure the settings are correct on my camcorder to record the film to my pc but the device is listed as an “Unknown Device” I have also tried to update the driver but it comes back with “The software for your device is up to date” The Driver details also say “No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device”
What can i do?

You mean firewire to usb, pack it up and return it, they do not work, totally useless!!!!!!!!!
Use a firewire card and cable, if you cannot do that then get a analogue to digital converter and use the AV cable.
Using firewire will give you the best possible results and you wont have any problems.
Sorry but thats the truth.
