I am confused, I know that SQL is a query language, so its used to query for data in a database, is this true?
but if i have a website, and i want to take orders for something, what database can i use, and what is the role of SQL here?

You’re correct. SQL is used to query for data in a database.
If you’re building a website where orders are taken, you’d need to install some kind of database that the site can connect to to store its information. MySQL is popular for this kind of thing because it’s free, but Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server are probably better choices if you can afford them.
