I mean it really wouldn’t be that hard to implement, and it would begin to turn around the whole virus problem with people being to dumb to download a free AV.
Well I think its because AV companies pay them out, what do you guys think?

No. Microsoft would get sued like they did for bundling Internet Explorer. They would be accused of being ‘anti competitive’ towards anti virus makers. You need to be careful when you control 90% of the market.
You can’t force people to use Microsoft’s antivirus or an antivirus altogether. It should be a shortcut though with the direct download link on the desktop
Then Microsoft would be accused of monopolising. The EU forced Microsoft to give us Browser Choice so we can have a choice.
Your theory doesn’t make sense though. Why would all the AV companies get together to pay off Microsoft not to let them put MSE on the operating system. Since these AV companies are rivals of one another, they wouldn’t get together to pay off Microsoft anyway.
Anyway, it’s bad enough having to deal with a pre-installed trial antivirus not of my own choice on a brand new computer. I don’t want MSE, I prefer Kaspersky and that is what I’m using right now.
edit@ So you actually agreed that all the AV companies get together and pay off Microsoft? Where is the evidence? I like to get facts rather than making assumptions without a shred of proof to back it up.
Ermm well EU doesn’t see it the way you do. That is how we got Browser Choice. Windows firewall was first introduced in 2001 XP Service Pack 2 and became the integral part of the operating system. Therefore you cannot remove the Windows firewall in later versions of Windows. You can disable Windows firewall and have a standalone firewall or a firewall from the internet security package. Saying that, IE is also integrated into the operating system – still EU have told Microsoft to introduced Browser Choice.
I have said I don’t want pre-installed trial antivirus on my computer which was Norton nor do I want free programs such as MSE, Avast, Avira and so on. I got my brand new computer and uninstalled Norton straight away without using the 30 days trial and put KIS 2010 on. Anyhow, I want to be able to install my choice.
If some people cannot tell the **** from the elbow when it comes to using an antivirus, whose fault is that? The AV companies or the idiots who doesn’t know how to use their computers.
Your question actually makes sense. How can you sell a car without safety belts or airbags? Why do I have to go to some company and install these critical for my safety parts? Why would it be monopolizing if Microsoft wanted to protect their operating system with an antivirus? Its free anyway and you have the right to uninstall it and use another one if you want.It was different with Internet explorer,it is integretated on windows services and if you find a way to uninstall it you’re asking for a major headache.
Computers today come with 30 day trial antivirus and after expiration the average user won’t renew it and their computer turn into a zombie. Why would it be so horrible if Microsoft had a pre installed antivirus like already has a firewall to protect their product?
It is all about avoiding potential lawsuits. (Lawyers always go after the guys with the BIG money).
I guess you weren’t around in the 1990′s when Microsoft was sued by Netscape for having the audacity to include a browser (IE) with the Windows operating system. Think of it…a freakin’ browser came for FREE with Windows. Break up the company!
That suit cost Micriosoft millions.
